PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. -- The Arkansas Foodbank is looking for Hunger Heroes in Pulaski County.
Hunger Heroes are kids and teens who want to give back to the community and are interested in helping to fight childhood hunger. The group helps to raise funds for the Arkansas Foodbank’s Food for Kids Program, including the backpack program.
This year the Hunger Heroes program is expanding, opening it up to any student who might be interested in participating. There are three divisions: Kids Division for ages 5 -11; Junior Division for ages 12 - 18; Team Division (school teams, sports teams, spirit squads, school clubs, etc.) for ages 5 - 18.
Each Hunger Hero will have a fundraising goal. Each participant in the Kids Division will have a fundraising goal of $500 (which equals 2,500 meals). Each participant in the Junior Division will have a fundraising goal of $1,000 (which equals 5,000 meals). And each team in the Team Division will have a fundraising goal of $2,000 (which equals 10,000 meals.) The program’s overall goal is to raise $20,000, which would equal 100,000 meals for hungry Arkansas Children.
The Arkansas Foodbank reports that 1 in 4 kids in Arkansas are at risk for hunger.
