LITTLE ROCK, Ark. -- This Martin Luther King Jr. Day the UAMS Eye Institute will be providing free comprehensive eye exams and free glasses to students ages 5 - 18 who failed their nurse-administered exam.
According to publicly available data, children at schools across the district failed their vision screening without seeing an eye doctor. It is important for children to have proper care to avoid possible lifelong struggles, including lazy eye and poor literacy.
The ROOTS non-profit has partnered with the Arkansas Department of Education Title 1 office, Arkansas Children's Hospital, and the UAMS Jones Eye Institute to make Martin Luther King Jr. Day (1/20/20) an opportunity for children across the state to receive free comprehensive eye exams and glasses at no cost.
