SHERWOOD, Ark. -- Sylvan Hills High School announces the hiring of Josh Hill as its new head varsity basketball coach starting in the 2024-2025 academic year. Hill will assume the head coach position as well as coach P.E. starting this fall. He is familiar with the Sylvan Hills feeder as he worked the past ten years at Sylvan Hills Middle / Sylvan Hills Junior High.
Coach Hill comes to Sylvan Hills High School with 23 years coaching experience, 13 of those years as a head coach. The past ten years he coached 8th and 9th grade basketball at Sylvan Hills Junior High and Sylvan Hills Middle School. Despite his tenure with Sylvan Hills, the majority of Coach Hill’s accomplishments came when he was the head coach at East Poinsett County High School. During that time, he won two state championships and led the team to state runner-up.
“We were lucky to get Josh ten years ago to be our head coach for 8th and 9th grade,” said Sylvan Hills athletic director, Denny Tipton. “I know he has been waiting for this opportunity, and I am looking forward to seeing what he does for our basketball program.”
When it comes to coaching to success, Coach Hill has quite the resume. He has 295 wins over 13 seasons coaching senior high and had six 20+ win seasons coaching junior high basketball. He was named conference coach of the year six times as well as Jonesboro Sun Coach of the Year in 2012.
“I’m so excited for the chance to coach high school basketball again,” said Coach Hill. “And to do this again in the community that has meant so much to me over the last 11 years makes it even better.”
Coach Hill will officially assume his position as head coach and P.E. teacher upon approval at the upcoming Board of Education meeting on June 11, 2024.
