PULASKI COUNTY, Ark. – Summer is just around the corner and Pulaski County Special School District (PCSSD) will, once again, offer multi-day meal boxes for families in the county. Along with PCSSD, several local organizations including the Central Arkansas Library System (CALS) and North Little Rock Public Library System (NLRPLS) will provide meals this summer.
PCSSD will have two pick up locations this summer for families with children ages 18 and younger to receive a five-day meal box. One location is located at Mills University Studies High School ( 708 E. Dixon Road in Little Rock) and the second location is located at Cato Elementary (9906 Jacksonville-Cato Road in Sherwood). The meal distribution will take place every Thursday from 7 am until 11 am (or until supplies run out) from June 6 through August 8, 2024.
There are no income requirements or registration required. For more information about the PCSSD meal pick up, please contact Regena English at renglish@pcssd.org. Each year, the U.S. Department of Agriculture partners with local organizations like PCSSD to provide free meals to children when school is out for the summer.
In addition to PCSSD summer meals, CALS will provide meals through Be Mighty Little Rock, a citywide campaign to connect kids and teens 18 and under to free meals. Summer meals will be offered at several CALS branches, as well as other locations throughout Little Rock. Various activities are offered at meal sites to help children learn and stay active. Activities may include reading or exercise programs, cooking classes and games, among others. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of this free and much-needed resource for their children. The goal is for every kid and teen in Little Rock to have the resources needed to Be Mighty.
The NLRPLS is launching the Bridge 2 Success Food Program at both library locations. Starting on Monday, June 3, the William F. Laman Public Library (2801 Orange Street), will be offering free lunches for children and teenagers ages 2 to 18, from Monday to Friday between noon and 1 pm. These meals must be eaten on the premises (they are not "to-go" meals). The Argenta Library’s program is for all ages and will start on the same day with breakfast from 9:30 to 10:30 am and lunch from 12 to 1 pm. The Bridge 2 Success Food Program is part of Bridge 2 Success, a 501(c) nonprofit youth outreach program that focuses on giving young people in Central Arkansas an opportunity to be successful.
