"Bear" with us as we share some great news for three different groups of amazing Sylvan Hills students.
First up, our boys track and field team competed in the Arkansas Indoor HS Championships on February 3. Outstanding performers included Josiah Rainey and Tyler Scott. Josiah placed 2nd in the 60 Meter dash with a personal best time of 6.95 seconds. He also placed 3rd in the 200 meter dash with a time of 22.51 seconds and 3rd in the 400 meter dash with a time of 50.90 seconds. Tyler placed 2nd in the high jump with a jump of 5'10" and 8th place in the long jump with a jump of 19'11." He was scheduled to compete in the triple jump but hurt his ankle.
This past weekend the Lady Bears wrestling team competed in the 5A South Regionals and came out as champs! Fourteen ladies entered the tournament and they left with a bid to state. Four Lady Bears won their bracket: Emele Siegfried, Riley Fazio, Kyra Looney and D’Mysha James. Seven girls came in second in their bracket: Jadelynn Isom, Ashlynn Stone, Giselle Lopez, Payton Finch, Alayia Watson, Adrian York, and Kylee Laird. Finally, we had three Lady Bears finish 3rd in their bracket: Zoey Weeks, Jer’Leah Davis, and Natalie Noles. The team will wrestle in the Arkansas State Tournament on February 23 at the Jack Stephens Center.
Finally, congratulations to the members of Thespian Troupe 2945 for their performance at the State Festival for Theatre Arts this past weekend. Under the direction of former troupe member now troupe director, DeAndre Lewis led the students in receiving a rating of GOOD for their One Act offering of Figment.
The following students placed EXCELLENT:
- Robert Cage and Artlanda Mallett in Solo Acting
- Emma Browning and Ysabelle Calahi in Solo Musical
- Kylie Belverstone in Stage Management
Adison Smedley and Hope People performed in the Duet Musical category and received a SUPERIOR rating. Ezekiel Shepard-Taylor and Tierra Allen received recognition for All State Cast while Kylie Belverstone (also our 2024 Honor Thespian) was recognized for All State Crew. Xen Horne took home 3rd Best in State in Costuming for Needle Threading. Finally, senior members of the troupe were offered scholarships totaling $221 ,000.
